ENCOURAGEMENT THINKING IN ISLAM
1. Islam encourages thinking. The huge number of verses and Hadith of Rasulullah SAW that speaks about thinking and its important is one evidence (dalil) the important of thinking in Islam.
2. Allah SWT has given a high position to ulama’ and seekers of knowledge in Islam.
3. Thinking is made Ibadah in Islam.
4. Allah rewards those who think and produce ideas and do ijtihad. Rasulullah said: Anyone use the intellectual right- two rewards. Anyone use the intellectual wrong-one rewards.
5. The change of people circumstances and situations from time to time and the change n sciences, technology require continuous ijtihad. The solution which where suitable in one period might not be useful in other period. This is why Islam encourages thinking for Muslim to produce new ideas to responds to their circumstances and situations. If Islam does not encourage thinking maybe no new solutions can be produce.
6. In Islamic Civilization, knowledge was encouraged and one of the major contributions of Islamic Civilization to the world is the wealth of idea and solutions they give. For example, fiqh is considered as solve of problem solving. Islam encourages thinking but there are some guidelines opposite to the western view of thinking which make Aql or reason as the source of everything. Islam encourages the use of Aql as long as they do not contradict the teaching of syariah. We can use our mind to think about the creation of Allah Taala but not the think about the nature of the Creator and His way of managing the earth and the heaven.
